Butcher Block Island

As an extension of our expertise in solid wood butcher blocks, Fjelsted Nord also crafts custom butcher block islands. We are able to build butcher block islands to your unique dimensional requirements, and can offer a wide range of wood species for your project to ensure you achieve the color and finish that best matches your kitchen.

Butcher block islands can be made entirely of solid wood, or might also feature steel bases. Wheels, too, can be added at the base to allow for added mobility.

Butcher block islands are often the centerpiece of a kitchen. We’ve built exclusive butcher block kitchen projects for both residential and commercial environments, here in the US and Abroad. We look forward to collaborating with you to bring your butcher block kitchen island project to life.

Here is a short list of the most abiding characteristics of our kitchen island work. To start a butcher block island project with Fjelsted Nord, please don’t hesitate to contact us here.

High-Grade, Solid Wood

Butcher block islands are only as good as the wood employed for the island. We work with American Black Walnut, Maple, Oak, Cherry, as well as exotic hardwoods such as Brazilian Cherry, Acacia, Mahogany, among others.

Walnut (shown here) and Maple are the most popular wood species for butcher block islands. They’re durable, locally sourced, and age beautifully. We’re happy to customize the wood types to meet your vision, and are capable of mixing and matching wood types, too.

American Handcrafted

All of our butcher block islands are handcrafted here in the United States, in our Minneapolis Woodshop by longtime woodworker, K. Fjelsted. We take special care to ensure every butcher block island is carefully crafted from start to finish. In turn, you can safely expect your butcher block kitchen island to enjoy a long life in your kitchen.

Given the handmade nature of our butcher block islands, we’re able to customize projects entirely to your requirements. We’re able to utilize the wood type + materials, the finish, and the dimensions that you need for your kitchen island.

Small Batch Quality, Sustainability

Fjelsted Nord works in a ‘small-batch’ production environment. Most of our work is either made-to-order or made in small runs of limited quantities.

By limiting our production in this way, we’re able to utilize only the highest quality, sustainably sourced wood. Our work is good for you - and the environment, too.
